COMO Cocoa Island, Maldives The World‘s Best Diving Island
Among the 1192 coral islands in Maldives, around 202 are inhabited, including 100 given over to tourism. Your destiny shall draw you to your destined island. Currently there is no COMO hotels opened in China, and its most highprofile exposure is when the movie star Tony Leung married Carina Lau in COMO UMA PARO, Bhutan. In fact, this lowkey niche brand has gained a formidable international fanbase and is the most appropriate candidate for bringing a new interpretation to an island hotel.
Along the south side of the main island, the 33 waterhouses of COMO Cocoa Island are deep into the water. The most basic room type is the 75 sqm ‘dhoni’room, based on the designs used by Maldivian fishermen, which is no where to be found in Maldives. The room structures combine New Zealand pine with Kajan thatched roofs. After entering from the boat front, the space opens up to a substantial deck by the boat end for slipping in and out of the water through a handrails.
The inside and outside space merges on the horizonside, with floortoceiling glass windows. The interior is set in white tone, matched with teak flooring, original wood furniture; the slight bluetoned handrails blend in with the white sand and the blue sea. The room is ventilated by natural air, aircon and fan on the ceiling beams, blocking the heat outside. Open the curtain anytime when you want the view of the sea.
Since its opening in 2002, the style of COMO Cocoa Island is deliberately restrained, using a simple yet sophisticated mix of the contemporary and indigenous. Since the ocean and the sky is colorful enough, especially at the dawn and by the evening, the simple yet brisk design has given enough space for the mother nature to shine.
The COMO Cocoa Island is long and thin, lush with palm trees, hibiscus, Burma gardenia, sea grapes and other tropical planets, surrounded by white sands. The facilities are, from the west to the east, respectively bar area, dining area, staff area, sports center, front desk, gym and spa. The clear arrangement provides a special delightfulness.
At COMO Cocoa Island, the restaurant is called Ufaa, meaning ‘happy’ in Maldivian. The menu is made of organic foods rich in living enzymes, vitamins and sea minerals. The Tandoor is employed to allow for fatfree grilling of meats and fish. After the dinner, one can have a drink by the Faru bar next to the restaurant, both flanking the resort’s infinityedged pool, in natural wood and Kajan thatch.
The guests can borrow for free the full scuba diving equipment in sports center, and use nonelectrical equipment for free such as the rubber boat. One of the rubber boat is transparent at the base, so you can see the fish in the sea when you look down. Here you can go scuba diving, fishing and dolphins searching, and the kitchen will even cook the catch for you for the next day lunch.
One cannot miss the experience of watching sunrise on the sandbank and going scuba diving. Wake up before the sunrises, and leave with the diving equipment on your back. The day is just lighting, and the tide is just rising. Walk towards the east along the sandbank to the Eastern tip of the main island, you will see a white sandbank ahead of you, facing the sunrise.
After the scuba diving, it‘s high time to enjoy a rich breakfast in Ufaa restaurant. A brandnew holiday is just beginning, and everything you just experienced by the sea has become an unforgettable part of your memory.
