When a traveler arrives in Prague today, wandering through its endless squares, palaces, and churches, and soaking in the rich history of the city, the idea of staying in a real castle to give the day a dreamlike ending would be so romantic. The Golden Well Hotel offers just this access, turning such a fantasy into reality.
This charming boutique hotel, located right next to Prague Castle, is exquisite in size, with only 17 rooms and 2 suites, but it has been rewarded by TripAdvisor again and again as one of the best luxury hotels in the Czech Republic and even the whole Europe. Blending modern comforts with timeless elegance, it offers a dreamlike experience of stepping back in time.
The hotel building dates back to the 16th century and was originally made up of five separate buildings, when the waves of Renaissance had just began to swipe. This property used to belong to Rudolf II, the Bohemian King and Holy Roman Emperor of the Habsburg dynasty. He did not only live here himself but also hosted court guests, including the Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe. A rumor has it that the building was a gift from the Emperor Rudolf II to Tycho de Brahe, who saw a vision of the Virgin Mary here. After that, the astronomer made a new curbing around the well and had some of its sections gold plated.
Over four centuries later, after a day exploring the city, just leave the hustle and bustle behind and step onto a peaceful cobbled street. Surrounded by flowercovered walls, you enter through the very same door once passed by the king, feeling comforted by the tender face of Santa Maria in an old tapestry. Then all the tiredness and emotions get their home here while away from home, when the past and present come together, creating a sense of eternity.
