The Start of a Perfect Tokyo Vacation
As the frst InterContinental hotel in Tokyo, InterContinental Tokyo Bay has been a well known and trustworthy luxury hotel since its opening in 1995. Nestling on the coastline of Tokyo Bay, the hotel enjoys breathtaking views of the harbour and Rainbow Bridge, allowing the sea breeze to blow away the hustle and bustle of the big city. The Takeshiba Station of the automated guideway transit service ”Yurikamome” which has become one of Tokyo’s unique experiences, is only few steps away. From here, it takes only 2 stops to reach Shinbashi, the starting station next to Ginza, making it
extremely convenient to get to this Asian shopping Mecca.
For those who are new to Tokyo, InterContinental Tokyo Bay will be a great start to have a perfect vacation.
Family Crest and Ukiyoe in the Lobby
The golden lobby of the InterContinental Tokyo Bay is classical in style. On the wall behind the front desk, there are 27
gold squares. The unique and vivid patterns in each square are family crests – a Japan family symbol that began in the Heian Period. Japanese art is influenced by Zen culture, so the family crests emphasize on nature, quietness and conciseness. For example, the first crest on the left from the third row is Oda Nobunaga‘s, the Fiveleaf Papaya, and the fourth crest on the left from the second row is the crest of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, Fiveseven Kiri. The sixth one on the left from the second row is Tokugawa Ieyasu‘s crest, Clover Leaf. The three heroes of the wartime all use plants as their
family crest, a practice completely different from the European crests of tigers, lions, eagles and other ferocious animals.
The magnificent ukiyoe screen in the middle of the lobby is the heavyweight of the hotel‘s art works and was purchased at an auction by the hotel owner, Tsukada Global Holdings Inc..This screen is called ”Inside and outside of the capital” and depicts the complete picture of Kyoto in the Edo period of the 18th century in Japan. The Arashiyama, Nijo Castle, Kinkakuji Temple, NishiHongan Temple are all identifiable.
Through the lobby‘s family crests collection and ukiyoe paintings, these two Japanese art works greet guests at the InterContinental Tokyo Bay and send them into the enchanting atmosphere of Japanese history and culture instantly.
A Room with a View
The 330 rooms of the InterContinental Tokyo Bay Hotel are located on the 8th to 24th floors of the hotel. On the edge of the coastline, each room is reminiscent of the English writer E. M. Forster‘s novel ”A Room with a View”.The open sea view from here is the best place to enjoy the sight of Rainbow Bridge, allowing guests to experience the best of Tokyo Bay. Because of the diversity of the rooms, guests can also enjoy the sight of the red and white Tokyo Tower and Tokyo Skytree, the tallest structure in Japan.
The Club InterContinental Lounge located on the 20th floor of the hotel is specially designed for guests on the executive and club floors. Guests can checkin and checkout directly at the lounge. You can enjoy Tokyo‘s premier panoramic views through the large floortoceiling windows of the lounge, while eating breakfast, afternoon tea, and club dinner prepared by the top chef, or just sip a drink to make you feel relaxed.
The 7 designer suites located on the 23rd and 24th floors of the hotel are the most interesting rooms in the hotel. The suite areas range from 69 to 85 square meter and are divided into 4 categories. Luxury Oriental‘s fourposter bed and romantic bath offer a deep Balinese vacation, while the white and camel toneinspired La Casa Suites exude an enchanting and gentle atmosphere. The Paris Maison Suite is inspired by the Parisian luxury residences with its refined elegance. Typical American style New York Luxury Suite resemble Manhattan‘s attic. Regardless of which one you like, having a night view of the Rainbow Bridge along the suite window for dinner will be a romantic experience.
