加勒菲斯酒店的名称源自位于其身侧延绵一公里景致迷人的加勒菲斯绿地广场（Galle Face Green）。维多利亚时期，人们常常散步或乘坐马车来此享受轻柔的海风，眺望印度洋，沉醉于这海天一色的美景之中。
然而，这位“贵妇”的气质并非一日养成，而是慢慢“修炼”而成的。1894年，在当时的著名建筑师托马斯斯金纳（Thomas Skinner）的出谋划策下，加勒菲斯酒店变身为一座两层奢华酒店；1903年至1909年期间，加勒菲斯酒店公司（Galle Face Hotel Company）继续买入土地，才使我们得以一瞥酒店如今的规模。
THE GRACE BY THE INDIAN OCEAN
The Galle Face Hotel borrowed its name from the charming expanse of ground known as the Galle Face Green, which stretches for a kilometer by the side of the hotel, along the coast, where, in Victorian times, it was a popular place to take a walk in the sea air, or a ride in a horsedrawn carriage, all for the priceless beauty of the Indian Ocean.
However, the current ”temperament” of the hotel was not formed overnight. It was in 1894 that it became a twostorey luxury hotel, with the help of the most famous architect of the time, Thomas Skinner, while between 1903 and 1909, the Galle Face Hotel Company continued to buy up land that would allow the hotel to expand to its present size.
