Umbria, an inland region in Italy and the country‘s only region without a coastline, covers a total area of 8,456 square kilometers, with forests accounting for 30 of the total area. The rolling hills, picturesque countryside, and green meadows have earned it the nickname ”the green heart of Italy”.

Forty years ago, Count Antonio Bolza from Hungary was forced to leave his homeland and seek a new home in various European countries. One day in 1984, the family arrived in the countryside of Umbria, where endless green fields stretched as far as the eye could see. In the midst of this serene landscape, Bolza spotted an abandoned ruined castle, which evoked a strong sense of nostalgia in his heart, as it resembled his former homeland greatly.

The locals referred to this castle as Reschio, derived from the Latin word ”Resculum” meaning ”defensive structure”. The solid stone structure was built in the 9th century and has witnessed the test of time, standing dilapidated and isolated in the picturesque green wilderness for over 1100 years.

After numerous efforts, the Bolza finally purchased a large piece of land here in 1994, along with the Reschio castle and fifty ancient and sturdy stone farmhouses. From then on, it was as if they had turned on a time machine, intertwining their destiny with the land of Umbria forever, seeking a life of seclusion and eternal freedom.
