The Elegant Banker in Central Europe
At the very heart of Prague, the romantic capital of Central Europe, the elegant Carlo IV is an ideal link between the smart and modern Wenceslas Square and the historic Old Town. Narrow little streets twining their way past towers and pinnacles help create the unique atmosphere of this legendary city. Carlo IV is only five minutes away from the Prague State Opera and just a few steps further are the amazing Charles Bridge and the Jewish Quarter with the oldest European Jewish Cemetery and Synagogue. If you are tired of the busy Vltava River, the Carlo IV Hotel is the perfect choice.
Rebirth of the NeoRenaissance Style
The new city of Prague is not new. The Nove Mesto was built in the second half of the 14th century by the Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV. The third square, Senovazne namesti, is home to Carlo IV hotel. Originally the site of the Czech Mortgage Bank, this Neorenaissance style building was created by the famous Austrian architect Achille Wolf, and it was converted into a fivestar hotel by the famous Italian designer Maurizio Papiri and the United States interior designer Adam D. Tihany.
From a bank to a hotel, much of the original building have been preserved, and it is also the most interesting highlight of the hotel renovation. For example, the vault doors of the original underground treasury of the bank still plays a role by becoming a heavy wine rack displaying many expensive wines.
The former bank hall has now become the hotel lobby, under the strict supervision of the historical protection department, its magnificent originality could be restored; the beautiful staircase with artistic iron railing represents the former glory of the building, and four Dorian black marble columns softlylit exude the glory of the 19th century; goldplated decorations and unique stone carvings are preserved; two restaurants and a bar are located in the administrative back area of the former bank building.
The Neorenaissance exterior of the hotel is decorated with metal reliefs that represent the history of the evolution of the Czech Republic‘s currency, and they are also endowed with the meaning of work, intuition, capital and profit.
Elegant and Memorable Staying Experience
The Carlo IV hotel in Prague consist of two buildings: historic and new building where the 152 rooms are located. All rooms are designed by Italian designer Maurizio Papiri with predominant tones of creamy and brown colours. Rooms and suites in the historic building have a greater space and a high ceiling with 19thcentury décor to create a romantic European style. Both the Presidential and the Carlo IV Suite retain the magnificent reliefs of the building, and the decoration and frescoes are all original.
The Vault a premium cognac bar offers a highly intimate atmosphere thanks to the origin of its location. This is the former bank‘s treasury, one of the oldest ones in Central Europe, dated 1910. The building itself was founded at the end of the 19th century in neorenaissance style for Mortgage Bank. The treasury door is fully functional until today. The Vault is also sought after by film crews, photographers and medias for its intimate atmosphere.
Cosmopolitan elegance of Salon restaurant creates an environment that serves the best of local and international cuisine. The back wall of the restaurant is decorated by the light display window where the best wines are placed. Unlike the worldfamous New York Café at its sister hotel in Budapest, the New York Café at the Carlo IV hotel has a warmcoloured interior, regular live music and is the perfect hipster hangout in the city.
Among the hotels in Europe, the swimming pool is rare, and the swimming pool of the Carlo IV Wellness & Spa is decorated with beautiful mosaics. There are also a jacuzzi and a sauna. This 20meter pool occupies the underground cellars of the original building. The pillars and vaults make it unique, and many local guests come to relax on weekends. The skilled masseurs bring a variety of classic treatments to the guests for a relaxing experience.
